Boehner worried Republicans may lose majority in House

In January, House Speaker John Boehner sounded a confident note about the GOP’s chances of keeping its majority in 2012.

He brushed off Democratic claims that House control is up for grabs, pointing to the role of the once-in-a-decade redistricting process in cementing the Republican Party’s hold.

In fact, he told POLITICO, it was “nearly impossible” for Democrats to win it back in November and it was “quite likely” his party would maintain control of the House through at least 2020.

So it will come as a surprise to many Republicans to learn that Boehner now believes “there’s a 1-in-3 chance that we could lose” the majority in November. Politico
