Su Tissue and the Suburban Lawns Wax Poetic About Nukes, Action, Janitors and…

On the song “Janitor” Su Tissue (Sue McLane) and the Suburban Lawns wax poetic about nukes, action, janitors and…her genitals. Part of the appeal of this three decades old KROQ classic, no doubt, was that listeners could not tell if she was singing “janitor” or “genitals.” It turns out she was alternately singing both. Listen to this quirky Southern California post-punk masterpiece that caught the attention of a million teenage boys near the start of Ronald Reagan’s presidency in 1981 (Lyrics below).

Lyrics to Janitor:

All action is reaction
Expansion
Contraction
Man the manipulator

Underwater
Does it matter
Antimatter
Nuclear reactor
Boom boom boom boom

I guess everything’s irrelative

I’m a janitor
Oh my genitals
I’m a janitor
Oh my genitals
Oh my genitals
I’m a janitor

All action is reaction
Expansion
Contraction
Man the manipulator

Underwater
Does it matter
Antimatter
Nuclear reactor
Boom boom boom boom

I guess everything’s irrelative

I’m a janitor
Oh my genitals
I’m a janitor
Oh my genitals
Oh my genitals
I’m a janitor

She moved to northern California and fell off the radar.
